A Poem

I wrote this a couple of weeks ago on a cool spring morning. I found it restful to shift my emotional and visual focus from the earth to the sky.

Looking Up

The geese are flying east,

their vee a perfect social distance

as always

Birds in the nearby trees chirp

unseen but felt in my heart

open to this cool spring morning

Sky is blue

Clouds fluffy white

The trees are in repose

as though basking in the quiet

of the Now

I breathe in rhythm

to their calm presence

A plane flies west,

white trail evaporating

against the blue sky

Looking up I feel connected

to a world whole and huge

and speckled with more

than anxiety and fear

The world goes on

with or without me

Its beauty maintains and continues

There is so much comfort in that

So much comfort

"There Should Be Angels" appears in the Autumn 2022 issue of Vita Poetica, along with my reading of the story.
